He keeps his photographs close to his heart...

How me and Lomo got together...

You can blame Jack White III for my Toy Camera addiction. I discovered The White Stripes only after hearing The Dead Weather, and browsing their online store I saw the Jack and Meg cameras. I thought they looked so cool, but couldn’t afford a snazzy limited edition lens. One day the store next to my apartment had a Diana F+ sitting in the window, it was only $40, and looked just as good as the Meg. So I took it home.

I decided that I wanted to take concert photos with my Diana, and so I tried. I can’t tell you how many rolls of film I went through with 0 results. Film and printing costs started to add up to the point where I could have had quite the nice digital camera. But I was in love with the idea, and have since taken it as a challenge.

I eventually purchased the LC-A+, it has a nice 2.8f aperture and auto-meters up to 1600 iso, really a much more suitable tool for concert photography. So I practiced shooting at every show I went to. Eventually Jack White and The Dead Weather came to town, I got to the show early to ensure I would be up close. (Tip: GET CLOSE! trust me, every foot matters.) I took some of the best photos of my life that night…

Since then, I have taken two black and white photography courses and started developing and printing my own photos. i am starting to understand the image making process enough to successfully take a roll of concert photos on my Diana!!!

The photos alone are nothing to write home about, but as a set of photos they represent about a year of hard work; I happen to love how the negative sleeve printed the words “Made in the U.S.A.” on it.

Well, that’s the story between me and Lomo. How I met her, and where we’re headed… I plan on thoroughly testing more about camera+film+developer combinations and hopefully will display my results here.

I mainly shoot a Fuji Natura now, but getting shots with my first love, Diana, is still the best!

peace, <3, :-) and a lot of music -brandon

PS: one more thing, you know what the coolest thing about those instant shots are?
You can get them autographed right away!!!
