BelAir Test #2
I am really not very happy with the BelAir camera and am kinda regretting that I bought it. Not only did the physical camera fall apart on me a few hours after I took it out of the box but the lenses are also not very good. I like the idea of it's format flexibility, though, and I might buy some of the glass lenses... maybe I can get better results then...

I'm glad I didn't buy it... I wanted it so badly but I don't like the first album I watched. I think their priority is to sell the (quite expensive) lenses.
I'm looking for a cheap Agfa Clack then :)
anyway, yours are the best Belair pics I've seen so far!
aanum
I have to say that I think your BelAir are way better, but I'm happy with the camera
blueskyandhardrock
@paurizio @aanum wow thank you! that's awfully nice of you both. yes, i think they really want to sell those glass lenses, which are important if you really truly want to get the best results with the belair. i'm disappointed and the light meter isn't very accurate either. I hope they'll produce a better version soon. i've been meaning to get an agfa clack!
poepel
I agree absolutely with you. I am also very disappointed in the Belair. I find the quality of the pictures really bad for medium format. But this is definitely the problem of cheap plastic lenses. My Belair was broken too and I had to send them back. Problems with the folding mechanism. Really disappointing. It is an impertinence that now expensive glass lenses come on the market. pure moneymaking.....
blueskyandhardrock
@poepel i am having problems with the folding mechanism too! and the button for pushing it out just fell off for no reason. i wish the picture quality was better because the formats that the camera offers are really great! did you get yours exchanged or are you returning it for a refund?
sobetion
Wowwwwwwwwww!! nice portrait :)

Hmm their not very clear, which is strange because Lomography has been boasting about their clarity..I have the first roll in mine at the moment, I hope they turn out okay..
koduckgirl
yes it was really hyped up to no end and the there are a lot of serious misses on Lomography's end like the battery NEVER gives an indication that it is dead, the bellows pop open all the time and dont firmly close and of the ten rolls I have taken so far only one has wound nice and tight !!! OH and the frme masks are a real bitch to switch... but all that complaining aside I have liked the successful shots of all of you enuff to press on and keep trying to get good shots it is a learning curve for sure! I do agree that it was cheeky of them to make the glass lenses another costly thing for us to buy when they are really crucial to making good shots with this crazy cam! I got the 114
laurasulilly
so pretty! and yes,i agree with everything' that has been said about the Belair. I guess it's just no point-and-shoot camera whatsoever, you just have to make sure all parameters (amount of light, aperture, framing) are correct in order to get half way clear shots- on the other hand, it's always possible to use the camera's failures to your own advantage but it needs excessive planning and a well-planned concept. just my 2 cents :)

Can't really argue with any of the comments. Quite disappointed with the camera, which I was so looking forward to getting, but its design flaws appear endless.
blueskyandhardrock
@koduckgirl @trock def! i think that if they had only taken their time with the camera and made sure it was sturdier and yet easier to use, people would have less things to say about it. as for the plastic lenses, the lo-fi quality they produce i'm beginning to adore. as per @laurasulilly, we can def use that lofi quality for our own advantage. the focusing is def still a pain in the ass though, especially when you've got this great shot but it doesn't turn out well cos your subject is unfocused! I've learned to employ the use of my limbs to approximate the distance in meters. that seems to work.

Love it!
