As some of you may have noticed I did a series with typo on an apple and a banana. I´ll quickly tell in a few lines how and why.

Well, first of all thanks for the likes, the comments and the messages that compliment the idea. But I have to say that the idea had someone else before! I just thought I can give it a try myself.

Some years back when I was finishing my studies a big part of my degree dissertation was about “customizing” and that´s why I was visiting the same bookstore over and over again to “inhale” what was out there.
That´s when I found a book with very interesting ideas on the topic customizing. It ended on my bookshelf.
As I became dad last week for the second time I currently spent a lot of time at home but didn´t want to stop taking pictures for the time being at home. So I needed inspiration, an idea of something I could do at home with my limited equipment. And that was when I remembered there was something with typo and fruit in one of my books – the idea is by Sarah King from Brighton who runs the webpage eveningtweed.com. So I had a look at it and thought I could give it a try.

My first attempt was to tattoo an orange but the surface is too oily and the little porosities made it impossible to write on it – at least with all the pencils I tried. So I thought I´d copy the apple Sarah made. My first pencil choice was a CD-marker but after a few lines it didn´t work anymore. So I took a pencil with ink and it worked well. Anyway it was a hell of work to get it on the apple and later on the banana – it took me more than 2 hours to do the apple. The banana was a lot faster as I was experienced then. But the apple was pretty difficult because it looks like tattooed but the ink remains on the surface which means if you touch it you smudge it and then the apple gets a light tone of the colour you chose. You can see this on the picture below when having a closer look at the “A” of the word “day”.

Even though it took longer than I expected it was fun and I really like the results.
Forgot to say: the makro pictures were taken with the makro lens of my Holga fisheye lens which I removed from there and just hold it with my hand in front of my Canon EOS and went on with AF mode. And it worked pretty well I think.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. And always remember: The world is an orange!

And btw: I hate bananas! No joke!

@emperornorton: and i tell you that this is a great idea to do. probably not fruit but something else. in fact it is even part of this topic: customizing. "my topic" are trainers/sneakers/kickz and in about 2005 in the sneaker-scene something became most desired and found it´s way last week to lomo: laser art! with differents strenghs of lasers you can do incredible things on surfaces. brainstorming the idea with branding i could think of bread, toast, wood… laser is a bit too expensive and you need professionals to do it. i´ll write this on a list. or maybe you give it a try.
