This is by far the biggest challenge of my life and I’m anxious yet excited about it. I’ve never been away from home for a very long time and never lived independently in a different continent from the other side of the planet. I know my life is about to make 360-degree turn and major changes in my attitude/outlook have to be made while I live in unfamiliar, culturally different, cosmopolitan territories – first in Amsterdam, then in England, and a short period of time in Belgrade, Serbia.
Since I’ll be travelling a lot and will rely on scholarship allowance, I’m not really sure if I’ll be able to shoot films and upload lots of photos as much as I want to. I know for a fact that the costs of film processing in Europe are way too expensive as compared to a third world country like the Philippines. They don’t have Digiprint there, which can process and scan 5 rolls of film for only 275 pesos (equivalent to 7 dollars or 5 euros). But I’ll try my very best to save money and keep on shooting! In fact, I have already allotted a big space in my luggage for my cameras and film stocks.
It is likely that I won’t be as active as I did in the past two years in the online community, but I’m excited about meeting European lomographers in the flesh and joining lomowalks during my days of being nomadic. I can’t wait!
Goodbye, Philippines! Hello, Europe! Please be good to me. I just hope things will go according to plan. Wish me luck!
