My Week In Film: November 24th-30th, 2014

2

And so it begins! Since this is my first blog post in my new “My Week In Film” series, I thought I’d just summarize the shooting I did, show some photos and just talk about what I did and why.

I had originally planned on starting December 1st, but I had a lot of shooting and a holiday this past week, so I had a lot of material to pull from. I don’t know if this will be an every week blog post, but I will try to keep it coming. My writing needs work and I want to get more familiar with expressing myself here. Previously I’d post blog posts elsewhere and here I just did hints, tips, and photo posting.

So, let’s get started shall we?

I didn’t really do much from the 24th to the 26th, shooting wise. I was way too busy with work and getting ready for Thanksgiving here. So my first big set of film photos was on Thanksgiving day.

Thanksgiving, a US holiday that celebrates, well, American’s need to control everything and feed themselves until they drop. I shot a 6 or 7 rolls of film plus two full packs of Instax Wide on Thanksgiving Day. It was lots of family, extended family and conversation, eating and all that is involved.

I had some fun learning how to better control the Fuji Instax film’s little quirk that causes an over exposed shot to became what looks like a negative on this day. It was quite fun to play around and see what worked and what didnt.

I also shot some Instax selfies. I like taking photos of myself. I can see how i change visually, my mood, and I am very cooperative.

It was absolutely gorgeous outside here, despite the gusty wind. So I decided I wanted to give my Lubitel 166U some love. And, I was kind of in the mood for some black and white. So, I gathered up some assorted black and white films, including some rolls of film my long time friend and fellow Lomographer @forceusr gave me, the Lubitel and I went out to shoot.

I ended up at a nice park in Bixby, Oklahoma where I walked around shooting and just taking everything in. The gusty wind made shooting the TLR format a bit difficult but I had a good time and it was a nice escape from my world.

Sunday, today, was meant to be another shooting day, but I decided to develop the shots from Saturday first. One thing led to another and the day got away from me. But, the above shots made it worth it.

During this week, I shot a total of two packs of Instax Wide, 2 packs of Instax Mini, 4 rolls of 120 film and 9 or 10 rolls of 35mm film. I still have film left to develop from Thanksgiving, but those will wait until next week.

All in all, it was a good start for my blog series I think. But the real question is, what are the coming weeks going to bring in the world of film? My birthday is next month, as is Christmas, and I have vacation planned for the second half of December. So I fully expect to do what we all love to do, shoot lots of film.

I did also spend quite a bit of time on Lomography liking and commenting on everyone’s new albums. That is something I love to do. Every morning, some people have their coffee, I travel the world through your eyes, and man that is the coolest thing ever.

And that my Lomofriends is my week in film.

Cheers, keep shooting and remember that it’s not what gear you use or how good your photos are, it’s about having FUN while taking the photos. And I had fun shooting every single shot this week.

Much love to all my Lomography friends and all film lovers out there,

@schugger - Indeed it is a lot of work. But, most of the work for each week's blog (when I do shoot film that week) will have already been done during the week anyway. It's just a recap with notes and thoughts. And it allows me to dig through my shots and relive those moments and maybe put a few shots into peoples view again since the time zones here can be a real mess when trying to be visible to everyone in everyplace here. I am hoping that once I get this rolling, if it does well, I can start an article or analog lifestyle article around the concept.

And since winter is cold and less friendly for going out and shooting a lot, I need something to keep my brain focused on the film photography I love even when it's not the most lovely day out.
