Why I almost didn’t take one of my most popular photos.
I looked up to this domed glass structure and lined up the shot, I didn’t push the button. I walked a few steps away, turned around and walked back to get the shot. I’m glad I did since it is now one of my most popular photos on this sight. It is not my best shot, it looks good as a thumbnail; this is why I think it is so popular. It’s not the type of shot that I would get printed, framed and hang on the wall. What is wrong with the shot? It’s a cliché, I have seen many photographs on this website of domed architectural skylights, I was aware of this when I walked away. Indeed, anyone could go to Simon Frasier University today, and take the exact same photo. I also realize I am probably not the first to take this particular shot. It is not extraordinary; it’s pretty. The patterns and colors are nice, but that’s about it, there is no other point. I think I just broke rule #6 – “don’t think”.
