Rule #6 and the photo I almost didn’t take:

Why I almost didn’t take one of my most popular photos.

I looked up to this domed glass structure and lined up the shot, I didn’t push the button. I walked a few steps away, turned around and walked back to get the shot. I’m glad I did since it is now one of my most popular photos on this sight. It is not my best shot, it looks good as a thumbnail; this is why I think it is so popular. It’s not the type of shot that I would get printed, framed and hang on the wall. What is wrong with the shot? It’s a cliché, I have seen many photographs on this website of domed architectural skylights, I was aware of this when I walked away. Indeed, anyone could go to Simon Frasier University today, and take the exact same photo. I also realize I am probably not the first to take this particular shot. It is not extraordinary; it’s pretty. The patterns and colors are nice, but that’s about it, there is no other point. I think I just broke rule #6 – “don’t think”.

you're mainly right, but I'am sure, nowbody will do the same shot in the same way, and... why should'nt a shot be pretty? And at last:it's difficult stop thinking.... this is the destiny of humans (grin)

The only picture you regret.. is the one you don't take.

I understand. I look at some of my most popular photos and wonder how they got there. As for Rule #6, I often think. But I think fast.

It`s funny because it`s often the case that the photos that others choose to like are not necessarily your personal favorites. It makes you think about what others see in your photos that you don`t necessarily see. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder :)

I went back yesterday and shot this again in black and white with a different angle - I like this second shot even better. [Photo:18833759]
