Flare thing is at the top…
Can you see the straight overexposed line along the top of the picture? Anyone else get this or seen it before? I don’t think it’s the scanner this time, and I want rid of it.
My suspicion is that something inside the camera is reflecting. maybe a film roller, or the pressure plate. It doesn’t look like a lens flare.

Hey its not a scratch on the neg by any chance? Does it appear on any other shots?

@kiri-girl, it's on every single shot! ruling out the scanner, and the negs as the source. I would assume if it were a lens flare, then it would only occur if light hit the lens in a certain way, which is what led me to the assumption something in the camera was causing it, something internal that always reflected as the light always comes from the same point.... If you're sure the negative was laying flat when you scanned it, it's possible that there's something in the camera reflecting light. It's probably not a lens flare, but more likely a reflective spot in the film mask reflecting a slightly curved line of light for just the time that the shutter's open. Take a look inside the camera for any straight reflective surface. If you see something, paint it matte black and see if that cures it. Also, make sure the pressure plate isn't reflective and that the film lays flat against it.

@dinospork check out the two sets I shot... http://www.lomograph(…)ville-point http://www.lomograph(…)-test-shots it looks to me to be identical and on every shot (two different times, two different scanning sessions). Would you agree that that just about rules out the scanner? In the meantime I'll run through your other suggestions. Initially I thought it might be a roller, the only silver parts, I hadn't thought to check the mask though. Thanks alot. PS, love your new articles on getting old cameras to work.
