Many backpackers choose to stay on the North side of the river, near a peaceful village of Virupapuragadda. People here are very relaxed, friendly and down to earth. The place has a great vibe and good mix of local farmers, small business and travellers. Climbers come for the giant red boulders, hippies come for the yoga ashrams, gap year students zoom around in their mopeds to go swimming in the lake, others found it a safe haven to just chill out and do nothing. But the government has another plan. Something bigger. With new airport, new hotels and new roads. No more 20 Rupee Thali for lunch.
